Middle School Tennis

We're making some changes to our after-school program at Benicia Middle School based on lessons learned from our Fall program:

1) instruction will be two days a week, 90 minutes per day

2) sessions will be split between beginners and intermediate/advanced players to allow for more focused instruction based on existing skill level

3) Fridays will be for Team Tennis and is not required for the students to attend

4) each participant with receive a BCTA Jr Tennis t-shirt

Instruction sessions will start March 19th and go through May 17th, from 3:30pm to 5pm. Below are the session options:

Beginner - Tuesdays and Thursdays

Intermediate/Advanced - Mondays and Wednesdays

Sessions will be limited to no more than 20 students. Cost is $190. The 10% sibling discount is also being offered this season.

One of our goals with the Junior tennis program has been to prepare our students for team play, against other clubs at the junior level but also for the students to be ready to join and compete on the high school team after they graduate from middle school. With this session, we are implementing a Team Tennis approach on Fridays. Each team will consist of no more than 5 players of similar skill level. They will compete against teams at that same skill level, to improve their game and to teach them teamwork, as tennis isn't always an individual sport. The players on each team will rotate, playing for 30 mins or 8 games at a time, over the course of the 2 hour session (2pm-4pm). It will primarily be doubles but we will also have some singles play. With an anticipated participation of 40 players, there would be 8 teams in total. Each Friday, 4 of the 8 teams would be playing. There are 9 Fridays in the program, so each team would get 4 Fridays of Team Tennis (8 hours). In the spirit of team competition, we will be tracking the number of games won each week per team. The two teams with the most games won after the 8th week will compete against each other on the final Friday to determine the champion team. Since this is optional, there is a $20 fee for participation in Team Tennis. This runs from March 23rd - May 18th.
